First, understand that a K & N filter is a total POS. All single layer gauze filters let in more air because they offer less material between dirt and your engine. If you are OK with that, then you'll love a K & N.
I don't know of any other good high flow gauze filter companies like S&B or AFE that makes them for mortorcycle applications. So, were stuck with K & N.. Don't clean them too often because like we've said, dirt build up if your engine's best friend, just like a clean K & N is it's worst enemy...

Second, my dealer says HD recommends using them dry because the oil can play havoc with the intake sensors.
So I guess a dry K & N is probably close to having no filter at all I guess.

Yea right. If that's the case, where do they think the oil mist from the breathers is going to go, when they're plumbed into the air filter can?

I would like you to show me where it says that in the instructions, and did you say the same thing to the good folks who use solvents to clean their filters...or are you just blowing ideas out of your ***???

It says in the directions from my recharge kit, dated 2000, that you use low pressure water flow to clean the filter, and using anything else can result in damage to the filter and void the warranty.

"Pressurized water, air or heated air can reduce the number of cotton microfilaments reducing the filtration ability of the filter in the future and should never be used. "

At least that's what my instructions say. Apparently you must have a different version, or else you didn't read them, or else you know more about air filters than K&N does, so blast away. It's your bike to do with as you please.
