Default Gear cams

I have decided to put a set of gear driven cams in my scoot and amd wondering what would be the best cams for low end torque. I don't care about high speed, just want to get up to speed quick. I also like good passing pick up, say from 50-75mph.
My first thought is S&S 510's but I'm wondering if this is the best choice.

Andrews 26G's works for me. I can make quick passes at 55-80 without downshifting even when riding two-up and loaded down with gear. Of course, having 3:37 gearing, which my bike came stock with, also helps.

don't know about other cams but every body I talked to was pleased with SS 510's.. you didn't say what you have I have a 04 softail std carbed did go to a 200 main jet was a little lean not bad as I had a 195 in there and did a 2200 mile trip with that set up and no problems except a speeding ticket..........

I also have the S&S 510G's. I am very satisified with them.

IMO you can create more problems by going the gear route. Additional whine, cost, possible crankshaft run out issueset cetera. Why not settle for the chain driven version. I can see going to gear driven if you are looking to go after lots of power & torque, but you are not.
Suggest you do a search on this topic and also go the the Latus HD site and the Ask Mike feature in their service section. This topic is very well covered and they do not recommend as in your case. Andrews 26 works well in the chain driven form!

I have a 02 Heritage as shown in my sig. Of cource it is a TC 88 and I run a Mikuni 42MM carb.
Johnny Canuk, I understand what you're saying but you got to realize that the MoCo is not going to recommend gear drive 'cause they don't use them or sell them.

Don't "settle" for chains if you don't want them. I'd make a guess that well over 90% of gear drive installs go in without a hitch. Sure, a few may need an over or under sized pinion gear and an even few more may have too much crank runout to ever run gears without a bunch of noise. I've put in more than one gear set and have never had any issues.

It looks like you went with the Andrews 26G. May I ask why you picked that over the S&S?

I don't have any real reason other than I wanted an Andrews cam. To be honest, I kind of wish I had given the Kuryakyn Wild Things cams a second look. At the time, I bought mine I didn't do the any research as to where they really came from. I just put "Kuryakyn" and "cams" together and said they don't add up to anything good. Since then, we have put a set of their bolt-in cams in a buddy's bagger. It really came alive. I was impressed.

XXX, thanks for that Kuriyakin link. Interesting reading.
The TC1G cams are $349.00 plus you have to buy the S&S gear drives. I would guess they would be about $350 as well. Works out to about the same price as a set of SS 510's. Wonder what the actual user difference is, if any.
