let me tell you one thing about the revtech...............KOREAN made!!!!!!!!!!!!my buddies 100 ci rev lasted 10,000 miles before the thing blew up. we were getting on the freeway and the rod went out the back of the rear cylinder and thru the bottom while the piston stayed up in the jug...they have had so many problems they sent him a new one even though it was 4 years old and out of warranty, because it was in his custom which isn't an every day ride..
my 2 cents but not a revtech fan...................

why not go S&S if you are not going factory.
in my limited V Twin exposure I have never heard a bad word about S&S
Rev-Tech is suspect for no other reason than I've seen them used on OCC bikes.

RE: Gotta get a new motor
I got these replies from two independent builders/shop owners from an inquiry on another forum:
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
The new RevTech engines like the 88" & 100" are complete redesigns of the basic EVO and won the engine of the year award at Cincinatti in 2004. They both carry a full three year, 36,000 mile warranty and the customer service is top notch. The problem rate is low and when there is a problem, they get on it. About two years ago, the sprocket shaft (left side) bearings were failing. The rumor mill loved that one...But, it turns out the problem was not RevTech but a bunch of Timken bearings that were failing.
I chose the 88 inch RevTech. I didn't care for the way S&S sets the rules for distributors, and I like the warranty that RevTech offers. I did some research on the Mikuni carb and it is a straight forward carburator versus the S&S that needs to be tweaked a lot. Plus, the money saved on the RevTech was nice also.

RE: Gotta get a new motor
it happened in july of this year................it was ridden normal nothing crazy normal maintenance the owner used to own his own shop, and got out of wrenching on bikes. and yes they stand behind their product because it is genuine garbage and if anyone wants a new in the box 100" evo style by rev tech it is for sale for $3500 all you need is a carb

How long ago did this happen? I've only heard good things about the 88" motor, but not much on the 100". Sounds to me like they stand behind their product if it was out of warranty by more than 2yrs and they sent him a brand new one anyway. Four years old and only 10k miles? Maybe it rusted? (I'm JOKING) How did he ride it? Hard and fast most of the time, or laid back cruising? I am genuinely interested.

RE: Gotta get a new motor
If that happened to me I would go with the HD rebuild at the fctory.
Now I have a question, why wouldnt a HD engine last 100,000 miles?
2 of my friends turned 100,000 this year, of course theres were 91 & 92 years but I just dont understand. HD were built for riding cross country, seems to me if the engines dont last, you cant ride cross country to many times.
My 03 Heritage has 17,000 on it, I understand it's a far cry from 100,000 but thats what Im counting on. I hope I'm not dissapointed, alot of money for something that doesnt last.
