Cruel and excessive punishment.

The law maker that wrote this should be ashamed of himself.[:@]

Public roads are NOT the place to be "stunting". I've been passed by sport bike riders doing wheelies...at around 60mph. Sure, there are open (visibilty wise), lightly used public roads where riding fast and popping wheelies will cause no harm to others. The problem is, some riders just can't control themselves and continue to endanger others.

Having said that, this law is a bit overboard, IMHO.

I agree wit this..heavy traffic isnt the place to be doing it..

Me whenI wheelie..its onmy dual sportat about 10-20mph....on backroads...and parking lots..

I still say like the guy I qouted..this is probably a bit much..now ..maybe some jail time fi yu do all of this WITHOUT a liscence.....then ya..I could see that....

There isnt ANY reason anyone should ride without an M/C liscence...they just arent that hard to get...ride stupid without one..yeah..you should be punished hard....
That will help insurance rates and safety.

The day I will agree to that is when they convict cagers that are wrecklessly driving and hit a cycle for attempted murder. Other than that it is excessive.

WAY EXCESSIVE. I could see a couple years loss of license or maybe even up to 5 years if it was a repeat offense, but a decade without a bike would make me turn to other activities for recreation. Maybe DRAG RACING a Corvette down I-75 instead???!!!

Folks who enjoy speed and "extreme" activities will find something else to endanger themselves and the public at large, even without a motorcycle.

one of the local news stations (6?) airedspecial investigative reports this whole past week on the dangers of "sport stunt riders". which really is a problem here is s. fla as I'm sure in other parts as well. only a matter of time before the squids ruin it for all of us. This may also have the opposite effect. If you know you are going to loose your bike and your license, it will make these guys do WHATEVER it takes to out run the law and thus endangering more people.
[sm=exactly.gif]These guys wont stop for anything and the only thing this law will do is cause more deaths to both stunters and theinnocent people they hit trying to get away [:@]

I wrote the representtive from Miami that introduced this bill and below is his reply. He replied to me 10 Oct 07, but there has been no change in the way the bill is written. I suggest everyone read the bill from Carlos Lopez-Cantera
Florida State Representative, District 113 (part of Miami).I suggesteveryone write him to let him know the bill needs to be re-written to not single out every motorcyclist. Damndrunk driving or dui doesn't get this much punishment in the state of Florida or anywhere else.
If this bill passes, it could make it to your community/state. If by some chance you get caught speeding down the road over the limit in this bill, you can loose your bike (taken by the state of Florida & loose your bike privlages for years). This is an unfair bill singling out ALL motorcyclist.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding HB 137, Offenses Committed While Operating a Motorcycle. I realize some riders have several concerns regarding my legislation. This bill aims to address riders of high performance motorcycles that treat Florida's roads and highways as their own personal stunt track. I am sure you can agree that popping wheelies at high rates of speeds or any other kind of stunt riding has no place on Florida's roads. That is the type of reckless driving this bill seeks to address. The goal of this legislation is to target stunt riding and prevent motorcycle fatalities.
Currently, it seems HB 137 has been drafted in a way that would affect all motorcycle riders. I feel that the poor actions of a few riders should not punish all riders. Subsequently, I am currently working on language that will amend the bill to clearly address the problem of motorcycle stunt riding on public roads. The amendment will clearly define what is considered stunt riding and require a motorcycle rider to maintain two wheels on the ground at all times. The speeding focuses of the bill will not stand alone but will rather be in conjunction with stunt driving.
Thank you for expressing your concerns. They will definitely be taken into consideration. I recently met with James Reichenbach from ABATE, and after I explained the true intent of this legislation he told me that he would support it. I am open to meeting with any person or group to discuss amendments to the bill. I believe that part of the process of creating a great law is being open to the ideas of others.
If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Carlos Lopez-Cantera
State Representative, District 113

No, I am not in favor of crotch rockets doing wheeliesin public traffic, but on the same note, if I happen to go over the speed limit (regardless of whatever my speed) I do not want the State to take my bike and ban me from riding for yeas.

i understand that the rules and regulations are there to protect people ( mostly from themselves it seems ) but they sure do make it easy to want to run from the popo now a days. whats are they gonna do if they catch you? ban you from riding for 10 years?
