Visiting Detroit and Wausau
Work has me travelling to Detroit Sunday the 25th thru Friday the 1st.
I will be in Wausau Wisconscin December 3rd thru the 7th.
I am semi familiar with the area around the Detroit airport and can get around easily. Not so sure about Wausau but its corn fields so how difficult can it be, unless there is 6 feet of snow or some **** like that!
I am sure there will be many boring evenings with no work to do so if anyone is in these areas and would like to meet for a beer, drop me a line.
I will be staying out near the airport in both places and any friendly bike chat is always welcomed.

I live in suburban Detroit so here you go. Get away from the airport area. It is the ******* of Detroit. If you must stay there. There is an excellent Italian restaurant in Allen Park called Moro's. Plenty of fine dining in Detroit and the new MGM casino is supposed to be very nice. If you can move your hotel to Oakland county (:30 minutes north) by all means visit Birmingham and Royal Oak. Plenty to do and see.
As for Wausaw, my mother is from there and I have visited there a few times. Downtown is small but nice. They have recently done a bunch of building there. Be prepared for variable weather in both places.

If you need to stay around the airport and yet want a quiet night sleep. I normally stay at the marriott in Ypisilanti. Although not golfing weather. It's on the Eagle crest golf course. During the spring, it's the practice course of the Eastern Mich Univ girls golf team. it's alwats fun to watch girls

I have been to Detroit many times on business and know my way around fairly well. If you get bored check out the Henry Ford museum which is only a half hour from the airport. There are numerous dealerships in the surrounding Detroit area and Biker Bobs (formerly Motown HD) is a decent sized dealership if you want to grab a t-shirt.

Don't know much about Detroit.........try to avoid high crime-rate cities.
Live 1.5 hrs from Wausau & drive threw to go to up north.........blue-collar town that is generally low key . Two decent restaurants are the Wausau Mine Company (awesome pizza) and Emma Krumbies (good bakery) .They do have an HD dealer in town......Wausau HD http://www.hdwausau.com/
is in a new facility.............judge for yourself, Wife & I try to avoid the place as they rarely discount anything.

Detroit Metro Airport is not in Detroit. Biggest problem is no cheap transportation. If you're renting a car for your stay that increases your options. If you go to "Virtual Tourist" there are plenty of links to local spots but you'll notice most of them involve booze. Seems like nothing much to do but drink.
As for the crime stigma, it's Detroit city that has the problem. If you go downtown use the parking garages.
