Just go for it I would watch the weather for snow, I rode down in March 06 from western Pa. temp was 19 degrees with snow on the ground, the sun was shining and the roads were dry , but it was cold and I would do it again.

You're crazy.
It's a stupid idea.
You can't afford it.
your family needs you right now.
But do it anyways.[sm=biker2.gif]

I've done test riding on snowmobiles at -40F (MINUS 40). With the right gear you don't really feel the cold. The right gloves and boots will be the key to your comfort IMO, your core body will stay much warmer than your extremities and if your feet or hands are freezing you'll be miserable. Loss of feeling in your hands can be dangerous too. I would bet that insulated layers along with your leathers will take care of the torso,so look into the right gloves & boots for the trip & wear a full face with a balaclava and a "dickey" or scarfto cover the neck..As far as the return trip, there are companies that ship motorcycles so that's an alternative if severe weather prevents you from riding home.

Check out the chemical heat pads available at WalMart or sports stores. They fit easily under the foot in your boot, and out heat for several hours. We use them all the time in the winter on PGR missions.
