You are at the mercy of Mother Nature by trying to ride in December.

High temps in the twenty's that time of year, add the wind chill factor riding a bike and it could be deadly.

If a recent snow occurs prior to your ride, expect salt mixture to be thrown all over your face shield. This stuff does not wipe off like water, it smears and really obscures visibility.

Dicey proposition there,

Start watching a weather site for extended forecasts, and plan leaving when it tells you you have a few days of clear weather. More than the cold, the wet will get you if it rains, sleets, or snows.

Might want to checkinto gettingsome Gerbings before you leave as well.

I think it is do-able. If you decide to do it, just remember you have to get back and you never know how the weather is going to be on the way back... so have a back up plan to get the bike home just in case.

Whatever you decide, Good Luck!

Why do they think you're crazy? Because of weather or because you're taking off on a ride with no job in the future?

On the way to Florida it can only get better!.... Of course on the way home it can only get worse!

Monitor the weather, ride safe and enjoy!

Late fall or early spring--can be equally bad weatherwise. After getting notice for my draft physical, I took my first trip south in '72, leaving central Mn on April 30th on a Bonneville, riding without a windshield. Hit rain the first day and froze, my $5 Shopko rain suit shredded at 60 mph, but by the end of the 2nd day I was in nice warm weather, and by the third day I was sunburned to a crisp. By the fourth day I was swimming in the ocean at Galveston. Still the best trip I ever took ! The best part was coming home and finding out my draft physical had been postponed, and ultimately cancelled.
