Mustache engine guard question?

Mustache engine guard question?
What holds the rubber foot pads on the Mustache engine guard? I was hoping it was just glue and not holes in the bar.
My SE Fat Boy comes with 2" longer floor boards, then the stock Fat Boy. This limits the engine guards that will fit my bike and clear the foot boards.
Iwould like to pull the rubber pads offa Mustache bar and install running lights on the bottom side of the bar beneath where the rubber pads are located. This location of the running lights and my headlight, should giveagood triangular light pattern, forbetter front end visibility, to cagers that are planning left hand turns, in front of me.

RE: Mustache engine guard question?
My moustache guard is from HD: #49140-05
The same guard fits most of the softails. Fits '00-later FLST, FLSTC, FLSTS, FLSTSC, FLSTF and FLSTN models for $239.95.
The built-in hard rubber "foot rests" are glued on.
