Default Polishing rims

I want to polish my fatboy rims, the entire rim. Anyone do this? The outter part would be easy but the inner I'm guessing would be a step by step sanding process.

I'm going to polish the outter part only, to hold me over until I just go ahead and buy the chrome disc from Harley. I was surprised they were under 500.00 a piece, that's not too bad considering the price of so of the mags wheels.

Hey Chris...

If you are talking about doing the actual polishing of the aluminum so as to look like chrome than you have some work ahead of you. The best place I could say to get the materials / equipment is from Eastwood Supplies. I did the aluminum rims on the wife's car and they turned out great....after 15 hours of elbow grease, and that's with having a shop setup with air tools. It will be virtually impossible to get the chromed look without the use of high speed tools.

I have some before and after pics on my home computer. I can send them to you if you want.

One other thing...if you plan on doing this with the tires off the rims than I STRONGLY suggest using Zoop Seal when you are done. This will chemically seal the aluminum to prevent it from getting dirty, spotted, soiled, stained, etc. in the future

Hope this helps,
Brian

I've had excellent results on all my aluminum with a drill, polishing disk and FLITZ metal polish.

If you want shine then Mike's got the right idea. If the stock Fatboy wheels still have the machining ridges in them then a simple polishing compound won't do it if you are looking for a smooth, chrome-like finish. You'd have to start by removing those marks and work everything in stages....and it is a pain and a LOT of work.

I've never seen a Fatboy rim up close so I don't know what the finish is like. I'm just assuming they are machined.
