maybe the place also sells manuals at 30% off. then you can install yourself.
They do.

I buy stuff on line all the time, but I recently joined the MVP club at my local dealer and there are plenty of benefits plus saving 15% off list, for a one time fee....all I can say is that it paid for it self the first time I used it.

What worked for me,tell your dealer you have found your parts cheaper but would like to buy locally, can they match the price. If not they might make up the differnce in their labor using your parts.Watch out.

Slighty off topic but.....If a dealer in Chicago can sell for 30% less than a local....You know chicago is making money...no way they could loose money on the parts because they kow they wont be getting any labor from the shop......Just makes you wonder what the local shop is MAKING on parts. Ive used Surdyke Harley for 20% off ....

I have an AWESOME indie shop near me.
Mt. Airy Motorcycle Co. in Mt. Airy, Maryland.
Great wrenches & great people!
They don't have any problem with this.

I know that the local dealers, who are not moving as much merchandise, have to keep profit margins higher to make what they need to make on the fewer sales (until the summer crowds start riding through), but still...

it does make me wonder exactly what that mark-up is. It must be pretty crazy.

If you're going to ask your local dealer to do it, maybe you should say you found the parts as part of a clearance sale somewhere. At least that wouldn't be quite as awkward.

I understand that dealers need to make money, but if you're paying for labor to install parts, there really is no legitimate reason for them to get mad that you didn't also buy the parts there. Remember, you're asking for labor. By their line of reasoning, they shouldn'teven work on the bike unless you bought it there, but we know that's nonsense.

Well, checked with one of the local dealers, where I bought my bike. The service department said as long as it was Harley parts, they would install them. It didn't matter where the parts were bought. They were very receptive. I don't think some of the other local dealers would have been as receptive. Just depends on the dealer. I've ordered the Chrome engine kit for my '06 FLST, as soon as it comes in, I'm setting the appointment. This particular dealer quoted 4 hours labor. All others (3 dealers) quoted 7-10 hours, thats purchasing the parts from them. Go figure. Thanks for all the info.

My dealer installed the parts no questions asked. It was a cruise control.Installed for $120. I did ask before I ordered it though. Good idea for the dealer to flat out refuse to help. Then when the customer wants a new scoot they can flat out refuse to buy from that dealer.
