While many can and do ride all year here in Tucson, I prefer not to be outside from June through most of September unless we're having a cool spell. Otherwise, it's like standing in front of a hair dryer. Under those conditions, oohing and ahhing at the desert landscape loses its appeal for me.

There is no riding season in southern Arizona. I ride unless there is a wild amount of rain. I drive from Maricopa to Chandler everyday & love it. it does get a wee bit chili in the winter mornings BUT i just dress hevy in the morning & just my leather jacket for the ride home.

Wet leaves are slicker than snot. Early-to mid-November is a hiatus, then it's whenever I'm not in a hurry to get somewhere in particular.

Roads in the north go through repeated freeze/thaw cycles that destroy the surface. Holes open up in a few day big enough to drop your tire 3-4" into it. Road seams seperatewide enough for a tire to get caught in it and flip you off. The road chemicals used with damage the bike and when the road is colder than the air the warm humid exhaust freezes on the surface creating a dangerous situation called black ice.
It can be done but it's not wise unless you're talking dirt bikes with studded tires to run on the lakes.

I gotta ask, WHY? That is one nice Ultra, if there is not snow, ice or salt on the road, why would you not ride? Granted, I see you are in Canada, but until it gets tto dangerous to ride (see the above) whay keep a $20k+ motorcycle in hibernation? Does not make sense to me.

You will probably get a laugh out of this but I put the bike away when waterfowl season begins! (October to middle of January). It does snow here every year and the temps will drop below freezing most of winter. (Alturas Ca. 4400ft. Elevation). I have been out all day many times hunting waterfowl when temps are in the teens--fun!!! I do miss the riding though and the wife gets a little pissed also as she likes to ride too. We make up for it after season for sure!

Used to have to do that too. Thank God ,not any more! Move to Florida,I'll leave a light on for ya! Jrsess
