My thought is that $18,500 for an '06 is going to be a real tough sell. Those prices on cycle trader and such are the pricesellers areasking, not the prices they're selling for. With so many new bikes on showrooms and so many used ones for sale, I would say that $14,000-15,000 is what you may get offered, perhaps even less than that. Probably not what you want to hear but that's the market today.
If $18.500 is the price, I'm thinking you'll have it come spring.

RE: Pricing a bike for sale...
OK so let me get this straight, because everyone selling a bike should know this....
I have scowered the web listings and find them listing anywhere from $16500 with little to no upgrades to a rediculous $25k(one is even missing the front fender go figure). I list mine in a mid-point (with 4K in add-ons) to what the current market shows and say offers are welcome....I have found none setup like mine so luckily it is fairly unique. Most are not listing the extra warrenty (I did see one or two) which I will not discount because I can actually turn it in for $1300 in cash.
But yet you folks are telling me that I should not list my bike at a reasonable price but rather I should list it below what everyone else is listing for and eat the add-ons.Ishould give it and the $6000 in parts away below even trade-in value to a well deserving joe-citizen.I should not view as my bike as even a smalinvestment of my time and money butrather a battered peice of **** that deserves no respect and I should not have even bothered to care for it.
Hmmmmm.....that is a new way of selling things I never thought about.Guess I'll just trade itin or keep it if there is no reason trying to recoop even 1/2 of the bike value. Is that how you sell your bikes and cars you give them away? You seriously would think I amI trying to sell the bike for my total investment (if so then I should just list it at 27K).
I seriously do not think that 18,500 is an unreasonable and negotiable price at $500 below blue book plus 37 to 40% of the add-ons. The dealer has already stated they will give me a decent amount plus about 33% for the add-ons...like I have said in other threads...exactly why would I list the bike below trade-in?
BTW...Do you realize that by stating such things in an open forum you not only devalue my bike (thanks for that by the way) but you also devalue yours.
Most people that have made these comments do not live in my area or even my state. Like I said in other threads...CA is a different place to live. CA folks paya preimium for thier bikes just by living in CA. Our cost of living is higher then even we want.Seriously ourhousesare likely priced 3 to 4 times most of your similar homes (there are exceptions)....and while the country set the poverty level around 23K ours is closer to 60k. Your selling market is not mine.
I give up on you guys....

Wow! I surprised to hear that your dealer will give you anything for your adds. Make life easy on yourself and do a deal with him and get your new bike and enjoy.

RE: Pricing a bike for sale...
Like I keep telling everyone...I'm in no hurry. I can put it up for sale for a month and see how it goes. I'll be busy with family, cooking, holidays in general. I do need better pictures though so I need to strip off the touring gear and do som polishing....The firstad was thrown up quickly so I used old photos.
Even if I sell it I can wait for a deal before buying....you know...low interest + 500 in chrome +++. I might even buy used...haven't decided. But I've heard rumors around herethat bikes aren't worth the metal thier made out of so I should get a used one for a buck fifty.

You asked us for our thoughts. We'reoffering them to you. Did you just want opinions of those who agree with yours?
If I may be frank, your emotion is getting in the way ofrational discussion. A person's opinion on a message board doesn't devalue a motorcycle. The market sets the price. NADA and Kelly are just guides. Your bike will sell what it is worth to someone. If someone offers you $18,500, that's what it's worth. But even in California, used Harleys are getting much less than ever before because the market is filled with them.
I'm just offering an objective, rational opinion of what I believe your bikemay beworth. The largest part of depreciation occurs during the first few years. You're trying to sell your bike at a time when it's depreciated the most. That's for everything: cars, motorcycles, RV's, boats, you name it. Again, it is my opinion that at $18,500 you will receive very little offers. The ones that you do will surely ask you to consider a lower offer. This is not news. Many on this board have received the same advice.
When the bike is yours, it means a lot more to youand its va
