RE: The New Wheelie Post UPDATE: I DID IT!
If you want to know how to pull a real wheelie and ride it don't bother with the "dragonfly" video. It's cool and all but we have a member here who has been featured in a couple mags pulling wheelies on his Road Glide. Check out PhilM. He should be able to give you some pointers. Another member here that I personally know is "Gutman." I've watched him pull wheelie after wheelie in front of our local Harley Dealership. I've had the front wheel off the ground numerous times on my glide. I just don't have the guts to drag a set of $800.00 Rineharts.

Man, I must be missing something here. When I think wheelies, I think of some 19 year old punk on a rice rocket with one of those mohawk-sporting full face helmets. What is the attraction of getting a wheel off the ground? And if you wanted to do wheelies, why in the fvck did you buy a Harley?
Don't get me wrong--if that's your thing, it's your thing. Just seems a bit out of place, sort of like a punk rocker at a Zepplin concert.

Nothing out of place about it...it's just something that some people like to do....

"On jap bikes I heared it was not necessary to dump the clutch, just twist first gear, back off and then smack it hard with all the throttle."
Never tried it on the HD but that is how I used to do it back when I was on a sport bike. You give it enough gas at first (quick twist) to raise the front end without bringing it off the ground, let it sink back down then gun it. I never felt comfortable dumping the clutch.

If I was 20, I might feel the need to wheelie. I'm not 20 anymore, therefore I don't feel the need. Although knowing I could if I WANTED to would be cool!!!

RE: The New Wheelie Post
My R1 would 'power' wheelie with only the twist of the throttle in first, second or third. Heck, I'd pull away from a light and roll in a little extra throttle only for the front to drop on the upshift. I didn't realize I'd been carryingthe front wheel for the last however many yards. It was fun.....May she rest in peace....[]
