Default Some info for the Helmet lovers....

To 5 on Your Side, WRAL Consumer Investigator Christine Bennett
The NHTSA standard for motorcycle helmets is pathetic. The following is offered as a spoof, and I need to say that, because they've got lots of lawyers.

The Arai Profile with approximate pricing from $450 to $527 is available now through many sites on the internet! Was $799.95!

Just in time for winter, you can have a full face helmet which failed performance tests (low temperature impact). However, it passed label tests, and since they are full face helmets, the chances that you will be stopped by law enforcement officers who use their own subjective approval criteria is slim to none! It even has the DOT label on the outside and all the required labels on the inside. You won't find this 3 lbs., 10-3/8 oz neck-breaker on the recalls database. Consumers interested in this model were also interested in the new Payola helmets.

Try one on today and find out why we say, torture and reduced vision should be its' own proof of compliance!

Jubilant consumers are saying:
"That DOT label from Tojo is plenty enough assurance for me!"
"Can I please pay more?"
and, "What? I can't hear you!"

FMVSS 218 Helmet Test Data For FY 2006

How can fourteen out of the forty helmets that were tested in the year of 2006
with performance failures not reach the motorcycle community? Yet the NTSB
can recommend a mandatory helmet law? NTSB & NHTSA lobby safety in Helmet use but
will not take the platform to let this information be known to us, the motorcycle community?

And now it's over a year later?

Compliance Testing, Motorcycle Helmets FMVSS 218

And I'm "stupid" for not wearing one............

Huh?? The NHTSA fails some helmets and thats a bad thing?

OK youdont like full face helmets. The law doesnt require you to use one.I still dont see the issue.

Nicely done Dave - and thanks for the straight poop link.
I wear a helmet - whenever I'm in one of those helmet states or when it's so cold and rainy it helps keep my head warm

Fast to get the data out about their questionable 'findings' regarding required helmet safety, but it doesn't really get out at all when those helmets that continue to carry their approved labels fail at the very tests they say are required?
Kinda curious WTF a labeling failure is tho?? Does that count labels that say they're in compliance when they're not??

More shot-in-the-dark required rules IMHO.

EDIT - Ohhh - now I see the label failure. I apparently doens't clearly state that the "Helmet Can Be Seriously Damaged" ??
Well - at least it clearly states Made In China.

Regardless of any BS you can quote, you have a better chance of surviving an accident with a helmet on than not. PERIOD. Your right to choose to wear one or not, I'm not here to judge you or anyone else on their choice to wear a helmet or not. Cherry picking information to support your argument is foolish. I'm sure I can find a study that points to cigarettes not causing cancer.

I always wear a helmet, a 3/4. Not just because it's the law but because it is also common sense.

With that said I think people chould have the choise.

Lets take all of the 40 helmets and do the following test. Even the ones that might have failed one of the required test.

Stage #1

We whack you in the head with a hammer 40 times.

Stage #2

I put each helmet on and you can whack me in the head with a hammer.

Oh wait! Maby we ought to reverse that, and who do you think is going to go out for a beer later.

Your Body. Your Choice. I personally don't care if you wear one or why you don't want to.

Just don't try to justify it using twisted comments from a report.

I won't get on a motorcycle with out one! I won't let someone ride bi!ch without one! And I chastise my friends about riding without one.

I know a lot of members on this forum that can give you first hand report on what a helmet can protect. I'm one of them. Took a spill when I was 15 riding on the back when we hit a man-hold cover with no nipples on it. The place on the back of my head took forever to heal.

So just buck up and say "I don't care and will not wear one."
