Using a dab of blue couldn't hurt anything if in doubt.

Your dealer didn't give you your complimentary gallon when you bought your bike? Without loctite things tend to fall off your bike. I'm sure you have noticed HARLEYS VIBRATE they vibrate a lot! Twin cams not as bad as EVO's.

Seriously, keep a tube handy. For home use, blue works well.

 

Isn't there a short shelf life once it is opened?

 

No, not as long as it is properly sealed. I have some of the red that is at least a few years old (don't use it quite as much you know), and it's still good.
