Default Educate your gals and your buds.......

Attended a recent swap meet here locally, took a young-blood that's my fishin' and riding buddy. He is new to H-D's and new to attending swap meets. Well it just so happens this meet was in a local MC's backyard (out of respect, no names mentioned). Some of their ladies had "property of" shirts/patches on. Well his yuppie-*** girlfriend starts poppin off @ the mouth about how she wouldn't wear that **** and they are stupid for wearing it..WHOA..I calmly took her to the side and explained in no uncertain terms that disrespect and stickin her nose in others business would/could lead to trouble.
Hey make sure your gals/buds know the golden rule when out amongst mixed company. You give respect you will get it, you run that mouth to one you run it to all. No bullsh*t..better to be educated by words than by boots..

You did right by taking her aside and explaining things to her. I disagree that she was "no respect for anything" - she was just not familiar with the MC culture and it needed to be explained. I also disagree with letting her "keepup and watch the boys show her...". Not everyone has been exposed to this culture and there's no need for their first exposure to be a bad experience.

This is a good reminder for all of us that might bring our friends into this kind of environment to take a little time to educate them first.

So right. I'm female and an officer in an MC to boot!. QUITE unacceptable in certain other types of MC's .. I was given a good "education" before going to my first event at another MC who shall remain nameless.. Another member said she wouldn't go because she just can't abide by that kind of behavior ... I figure hey, I personally may think some of their attitudes are caveman-esque and moronic, but I can deal with it. Different strokes for different folks. So I was well prepared for how Iwas (or I should say howI was NOT) treated (basicallyit was like I didn't exist), and how Ishould act (or NOT act). But to bring someone into that kind of situation without advising them as to what it's like and how to behave was wrong of your friend, and could have had caused some unpleasant moments.

Well....she didn't go up to any of those women, did she?

You were right to let her know that this is a subculture that appreciates a little space and deference. It wouldn't matter if she were in teh middle of MC central or downtown Cairo. When you go among people who are different, in any way, it's a good idea to keep your mouth shut, be overly polite, and mind your own business. Duh, right?

Among her friends, she has a right to be outraged, though, doesn't she? Just maybe before or after she was in the MC's space.

She just sounds young.

Keno, EXACTLY F**KIN RIGHT. I would have been mixed up in the middle of it 'cause he is my bud. I was fortunate to learn all about MC etiquette by my cousin's MC when I was young, dumb and full of ....... I just thought I would put this out for the "uneducated" Because when it goes down, if you are worth your salt you will go down with your buddies/crew/brothers/ladies. So the simple way was to give her a quickie lesson in etiquette/manners with no trouble.
