ORIGINAL: whaap

Mostly personal preference. I have always been a fan of the Softails. To me they look the way a Harley is supposed to look.
I agree with Whaap... Personal preference mostly.

I have never owned a Dyna but I have had 2 ST's and a Sporster. A dealer once told me the Softail has a smoother ride but I am sure that has been debated on this forum with a lot of humoruos comments. I mainly went with the Softail because I didn't like the looks of the springs on back of the Dyna.

I had the same problem, not sure which one to get. All I can tell you is I bought a Fatboy, did not ride the Dyna, I love the Fatboy. Best thing I ever did.

Do you have a motorcycle license. If so H-D is going to dealers right not giving demo rides. Check with some dealers and see when this might be happening with H-D . Or contact H-D and ask when they might be at a dealer in your area.
Then you can go rent the bike you like best. Most dealers that rent bikes will let you rent a bike and come back in a couple of hours and change to another bike. They will let you do this with up to like 3-5 different bikes. Mabe you might be able to find out what kind of riding you like and which bike fits you the best.

Softails look like bloated pigs with fat rear ends=P.

Guess thats why they call em hogs =P

If you want a lean, mean, cruising machine mang...then the Dyna is the only way to go.

Cant go wrong here, its really up to you. Both great bikes really.

Cheers,

Tom

You sit in a softail and ontop a dyna. I own a softail but love the dynas ride when having fun. Love the softails seating position and lowness to the ground. I havent been a passenger but from what i get the dyna is easier on a passenger when both are setup similair. Now if you can find a Fxr for a decent price i would suggest taking a look at it there my favorite of all time. but they dont make them anymore

We don't know how tall you are, how much you weigh, what kind of riding yer want to do. If yer riding 2 up. Or what. A lot of this would factor into the kind of bike you might git.

Thanks everyone for the input. From all the help, and general consensus of friends, I'm thinking of going with the Dyna.
The next dilema is that everyone recommends getting a windshield and it's just that the Dyna's dont look as appropriate as say the Tourers or some Softails.
I guess this is why the Road Kings are so sought after. Anyway, it looks like a Lowrider or Custom for me for now. Custom had huge price decrease for 2008.
Thanks everyone!

If you put a windshield on it you not going to want to ride it without a windshield. The windshield nocks off the air, bug's and stuff. By the time you git threw you might be on a street glide or a EG too.
