Default Cold weather oil temps

Went for around a 45 mile ride yesterday, temp around 55 degrees. Just for the hell of it, I checked the oil temp. after I got home. Was only 150 degrees which surprised me. Thought it would be higher. Riding in below 40 degrees temp I would not think the oil would get hot enough to burn off moisture, etc. in the oil. Whad'you think? Ever checked yours in the winter after a ride?

It's an air-cooled engine. Go figure.

Riding with fork deflectors, fork baffle, and vents closed on the lowers, mine will get to about 190 degrees after a 45 mile ride in 40 degree temps.

It was about 70 here in West Texas and a 100+ mile ride took my oil up to about 170. Im using one of those dip stick thermometers and have never tried to check it against an accurate lab grade thermometer but I'll bet its about right. AL

It was 2 above 0 C tonight so we dressed warm and went for a 180k ride.
I have the daugs on the engine guard of my 07 softail springer, thinking the heat would rise and help keep me **** from freezing. I noticed that the heat was no where near as hot as it was this past summer, and me **** froze.
Don't have a temp guage but I could put my hand on the oil tank and keep it there.

There is nothing you can do no matter what the temp.150 is enough to take care of the moisture as long as you ride it long enough,15 or 20 minutes minimum.

This is the same "problem" I had with my air-cooled Porsche. The winter temp never got above 176F due to the air/oil cooling in the winter.

It is important to not miss any regularly scheduled oil changes and to try to avoid taking short trips in the winter.

Mines been in the 150 range lately, running in 50 60 degree weather. I'd bet it gets a good bit hotter while it's in the motor
