We went to Tennessee to ride the Smokies, BRPand Tail of the Dragon, etc.
While there we did the normal Harley dealer visits for T-Shirt souvenirs for us and our friends.
We hit the HD store (clothes only) in downtown Gatlinburg andthe prices were crazy, on top of that, they wouldn't give HOG member discounts because they said they are a specialty store.
While I'm waiting to pay another couple was checking out. They were ask to present ID because they were writting an out of state check. Apparently they use a Police ID for the check reference. The sales clerk says her husband is a cop so she gives them 20% off, WTF!

So if you own a Harley and support Harley, you don't get sheat. But if you're in law enforcement in a different state you get a 20% discount.

Don't get me wrong, I think that cops and firefighters should get a break for what they do for so little pay, but I also think they should honor the Harley family as well.

Yeah, down south you need to be an official member of the "Southern Coalition" to get any real discounts at the dealers.

 

We don't give discounts to yankees at our place of business either, sorry.

 

Why would they give discounts to Harley Owners? Isn't that their primary customers?

 

If I remember correctly,the only timeI was thereanyhow, they charged admission toget in. (fwiw..at that point, I didn't really feel like I was missing all that much, charging to go into a store?).

 

i bought my bike from the store in marryville..their store in Gatlinburg you even have to pay to park there.....screw that..and i was living there

 

This same scenario exists at the Orlando Harley store in Disney.......no discounts. No way, no how.

As far as Gatlinburg goes, what do you expect when you go to a tourist town? As far as paying to park....that is the norm in most of the town. Honestly, their sales are probably geared towards tourists who either (1) Don't even own a HD, or (2) Don't care to drop whatever funds are necessary and just mark it down as part of the cost of the vacation.

 

You should have gone the new shop ten minutes down the road in Pigeon Forge...Not as big as Maryville, but not a tourist trap like downtown G-burg
