UPDATE!!! Cam Shoe Tensioners crapped out!
Took my bike in this past Saturday for noise coming from the left hand side, forward in the primary area.
The techs pulled the primary tin off and concluded at the time that the Compensating Sprocket was trashed...I called today and now they say that the Cam Shoes are toast as well?
I have 29.7k on this bike...was told that that was an early failure. I was also told that thisnormally happens around 50k.
I change ALL my oils ahead of schedule and use synthetic oils...go figure?

RE: Cam Shoe Tensioners crapped out!
There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when the cam shoe tensioners are going to go. I'm anxious to start hearing reports on wear for the new style.

From what I seen, cam shoe's will wear and not uncommon to show need for replacement with your
mileage. I'm close to you at 27K on my '05 and will be going to a gear driven cams over the winter.
Many feel the cam shoe design is poor as those cam shoes become brittle over time.
The noise in your primary chain area most likely due to chain out of adjustment. You maintain proper adjustment on it? No experience really with compensator sproket replacement...seems possible I guess,
if you ride it hard and the chain is out of adjustment.
I can tell when mine is needing adjustment, as shifts are not quite as smooth as they should be...finding
neutral, ect.
edit: and you're correct stro. Some have needed replaced at 20K, where others have 50-60K with no problems???

I changed to gear driven cams earlier this summer...38K. The wear on my tensioner shoes was less than the thickness of a dime.

I'm close to 30K on my 06 Street Glide and I'll be changing my cam chain tensioners then. Provided they make it that far. No noise yet, knock on wood.

RE: Cam Shoe Tensioners crapped out!
Just got a call from the dealer; the cam tentioners are ok...not sure why they told me they were bad earlier?
They have the rocker boxes and push rods out and still can't locate the noise coming from the engine.
It looks like I won't be going to Octoberfest this year...
