Default What do I do to my bike when I put it up for the winter?

Im up in upstate NY, and its getting colder by the day and in a month or soI'm probly going to have to stop riding til spring.

This is my first harley so im not sure what people usually do when they set it up for winter storage.
Its going to be kept in a garage and covered I know for sure, but Im not sure on what to do to it

Should add a fuel stabilizer, or run the tank dry etc...
Should I take out the battery and store it in my cellar?

Any advice would be appreciated

Serious answer... no really! Fuel stabilizer in a full tank. And install an on-bike battery pigtail for connection to a bonafide battery tender. You put the battery in your basement like you said and it will die a terrible death and you'll never hear the screams.

Lotsa folks change the oil before storing to get rid of the acidic, polluted oil.

I always put in the stabilizer and then fill the tank, and ride it home so that the stabil has a chance to mix in and get into the lines.

A Battery tender is a MUST, and besides, they only cost about 35.00. You leave the pigtail on all year, and you can use it to connect heated gear for cold weather.

I would definatly clean the bike up real good, and a good coat of wax will never hurt. The cleaner it is before you store it, the easier it will be to get it ready to ride come spring. Store it on something other than concrete, the moisture from changes in the weather could allow rust to start at the side stand. A Piece of carpet under the bike, or like I did, a Plastic floor in the garage. anything to keep it off the direct contact to concrete.

Send it down here to Texas and I'll take care of it for you.

By chance do you need the oil changed while I have it?

Im already crying, im hoping i can get atleast a few more long rides this year.

Lately its been in the 30's or 40's and raining everytime I have the chance to get out, and being soaking wet and frozen takes a good part of the enjoyment out of the ride
