Default RE: starter drags battery down

ORIGINAL: AcidRayn

okay, i'll bite
basic info is the start of any troubleshooting
what year bike? hnmmm, maybe its a 1950 something and did not have a starter, hmmm, theres a problem.
model? hmmm, sportster starter is different then a twin cam, hmmm, prestoliet is differnent then a hitachi, and all have their own inherent problems
engine mods? o, heres a good one to miss, eh smacktard? lets see, the stock 1.4kw starter that came on my twin cam sure had a hell of a time cranking it once that ol 88 cu in became a 110 cu in! hmmm, that ol 1.4 smoked a battery in less then 2 weeks due to the load, so, yea, i think mods would make a small difference
how old batt? hmmm, lets see, if its 10 yrs old, im thinking it s junk, start there

but, since you mentioned it, the guy who wrote the original post has not responded yet once since his initial sign on.

you seem to be a bit full of your self, mr techno geek. i was only trying to help you condensending piece of chit!
good day to you sir!

my starter is draging down the battery when I first try to crank bike,it finally kicks over,I check load on battery and it show very strong 13.2 volts. do I need to replace starter or what? not much of a mechanic when it comes to H/D.
Sorry there cannonball000, go back to the first response you received from AcidRayn, then read.... this is a point to be made very apparent to everyone who may skip....

"need more info.
what year bike? model? engine mods? how old batt? "

What really does that have to do with anything ? nice too know, but why ? What would that do if it’s a bad connection “it looks tight” doesn’t cut it, clean ground connection, or does a vibrating ground cable, that starts to break down under the covering ? a bad solenoid better to change that out, then a starter.

Voltage drop is the only sure fire way to find out what the hell is going on, or flip a quarter ?

is there something I missed ?

What makes a difference is the size of the motor, little cc or ci little draw, big cc large draw, one has in just about all bikes (who list on this site) a battery, cables, bolts, solenoid and starter, all have general voltage drops at these points, base on size of the motor, not model, not year or brand even, DC current is current in any starting systems, it doesn’t behave any different in models, just cc or ci for example 800 cc or less or 1000 cc or more, I did indeed ASSUME things like he is on the CHAT, not the sporstser forum, I ASSUME it was a newer bike it wasn’t posted on the 'historic' bikes” forum are you getting my drift ?
