I always stand on the right side of the bike while filling. Pull back the epa rubber boot with one hand and use the other to operate the pump. Not bad once you get used to it although it is difficult to keep it from splashing back out at all...New idea...Gas stations with motorcycle filling attendants only as we as considered HOV vehicles at least in CA. (High Occupancy Vehicles) For free of course.
Same here, I always stand on the right side. And I have splashed a bit once or twice, don't really worry about it though.

The ones that get me are the guys that don't even get off the bike to fill er up, with my luck, I'd drop the bike and then pour gas all over the hot pipes [:@]

Did the same thing the 2nd time I filled the tank. Some how I was distracted and the nozzle pulled out enough that the gas splashed on the inside neck plate. Instant geyser........Took my water bottle and poured it over the tank to try to neutralize the gas. It didn't hurt the paint and I'm sure this won't be the last time splashing my tank either.

I did this exact same thing a few days. Took the nozzle out while gas was flowing because I wasn't paying attention. It was like a fountain, all over me, up my nose and god knows where else. Bought a big bottle of water and rinsed everything off. Good times.

I always prefer to fill my bike while in the saddle. I pull up close to the pump and drop the kick stand. It seems easier to me.

I always stand on the left side of the bike with the pump to my left. I feel I can control the nozzle better because my arm lines up with the fuel opening better. When I lived in California, those nozzles equipped with vapor returns were hard to deal with from the awkward side of the bike. Also, I listen for the sound of the gas coming to the top. I don't trust the automatic shutoffs.

Another hazard is when the guy before you didn't return the trigger to off, and you turn the pump on. Some nozzles will be wide open.
