Default air cleaner element cleaning

Just wondering the best way to clean the element on a HD high flow air cleaner element?

I am thinking a bucket with some sort of soapy water, swishing them element around and rinsing, then drying in the Florida sun?

What is the best soap to use?

Thank you once again for guidance in this difficult time.

Oops, said element too many times.

Lastly, is a few drops of the blue loctite a good idea on the screws when reinstalling?

Again, thanks.

Isn't the HD filter paper? Wouldn't want to try washing a paper filter. I know you can cleanand re-use the K&N filters though.

Actually, I was surprised to find out that the maintenance manual now outlines procedures for cleaning the filter element. They must have changed at some point when no one was looking.

floydpink (nice name) your plan is a good one and any mild soap will work, dawn is great because it actually does cut through the grease. If you are careful, it can be a good idea to blast about 30psi of air from the inside out as well. Just don't stay in one spot too long or you could damage the element.

If you're talking about the screaming eagle filter, I used K&N filter cleaner. The bottle has directions on it, it worked great. I did use loctite on mine.

Yeah the SE AC is a paper filter. My dealer informed me that they don't get cleaned and they should last 2yrs before needing replacement (under normal riding conditions). Mine lasted about 400 miles before the rubber broke down. Brought it in to the dealer and they gave me a K&N. It was left over from when they put them in. My advice, get rid of the SE AC and get a K&N.

I run K&N's and clean them with Varsol. It's a petroleum based cleaning product I buy at a local oil jobber. After cleaning, I let the filters air dry, reoil them then reinstall them. I don't use loctite, blue or otherwise.

Yep. Your K&N filter you ordered comes pre-oiled.
After your first cleaning, some couple thousand miles
down the road, you'll wash it with their cleaning
solution, allow it to dry, then lightly coat the filter
with the spray oil in their cleaning kit.
