We would ride in a pretty tight group to stay warm in the winters in Michigan.

This was the first thing I thought when reading this. I'm a fairly new rider, but it doesn't take a class in group riding to tell me that this was a stupid thing to do. I know there are other elements to group riding that were and are less obvious to me, but this one is pretty obvious Bozo no-no.
