Default Denver, CO is slapping $500 fines on loud pipes...

Head over to FoxNews.com, there's a video piece about Denver's recent instatement of this new fine.

Summed up, the ordinance says cops are allowed to pull bikers over whose bikes are blatantly loud. They'll be measured with a dB meter and the cops will also check the EPA sticker on the exhaust system that indicates the level the pipes are designated for is no more than 82dB. If violations are found, $500 fine is slapped on the offender.

Heard that one in another post, Daytona's been doing the same thing for at least 3 years now. Not sure if the fine is as high, but I've seen lots of folks getting tickets on Main st.

http://www.foxnews.com/video2/player...;&&new

That's the link, if it works. Note the first bikes shown in the video are all sportbikes, even though the announcer asks, "How loud is your Harley?"

And, If anyone paid attention to the police spokesperson, it was made plain that the issue was to stop the noise, not just harrass bikers. The lady said that the police were going to be targeting motorcycles that brought attention to themselves by making noise. Ie. cracking throttles, riding loud in downtown areas and residential areas, and trying to set off car alarms.

Another person on this forum also sent a letter or E-Mail to the Denver Police Department and got a similar response. The Denver PD does not seem to be planning to make random stops for pipe checks. They will be targeting people who act stupid and bring attention to themselves.

If you don't want a 500.00 ticket, just don't ride like an idiot. Even with loud pipes you don't have to be loud unless you want to be.

EPA sticker on the exhaust?????
The original post some months ago talked about the stamped alph/numeric on the OEM exhaust (on the underside of the stock mufflers). After market pipes don't have stamped info...and are ususally louder than OEM mufflers.

Yes it all starts with fines, for what it's worth my opinion only. 80% of us have legal nice sounding,rocking pipes, 20% arevery loud. ( loud pipes free expression, nothing wrong with being free)..ButLoud pipesare contirbute to complains to Local Governments and it goes up the food chain to State governement.. Do we wantlawspassed by someone that has never even sat on a bike before. So thewrong legislationput in place,will cause usall toride bikes that sound like a stock honda generators. Think about it, it's real problem that is silentlyjust mounting???
