Default Craftsman Torque Wrench model# 44593 "click"

I know many of you have one, my question is, does it "click" when you get to the desired torque? If not, how does it let you know when you are there?

"Well this is the second Craftsman 3/8 TQ wrench I've bought thinking it was a fluke breaking the first time....it wasn't. Now it will not reverse, but still tightens, so I guess it's still functional for torquing. Used for about 6 months for the first wrench I bought, and just over the 90 day warranty for the second. Also my 1/2 Crafsman TQ wrench broke within a year. They were inexpensive so I guess you get what you pay for, next time Snap On....just expected more from a Craftsman."

I don't trust them. I had one, until one day it decided not to click and I ended up breaking a head bolt in my '62 Studebaker V-8. I gave the fancy wrench a one-way ride to the landfill and dug out my trusty old-fashioned torque wrench. Perhaps the click-type wrenches are sexier and more accurate, but I don't usually think of sex when I'm wrenching, standard wrenches are accurate enough for what most of us do, and the click-type wrenches require calibration every so often, and I can't be bothered with that for as often as I use them...and if you don't calibrate them, then what's the advantage?

Mine doesn't click as much as it just "breaks" when the torque setting has been reached. I have 3 Craftsman torque wrenches and they all work fine. Never had them calibrated tested to see how close they are to spec though.

Hey man, Craftsman and a Danaher sister company called Gear Wrench does have a cool new digital torque wrench in 3/8 drive. These are actually the same wrench(the Craftsman costs a few bucks more) but you set the desired torque and as you approach the set level, you get lights flashing and a beep when you hit the mark. These are accurate to plus or minus 1 1/2lb/ft (I cannot remember the exact tolerance...it may even be closer). You should be able to get one for about $130.I work for an authorized dealer and saw these at a recent sales meeting. They are nice.

As a professional tech who has to use a torque wrench on a regular basis, Matco and Snap On Torque wrenches are THE best hands down.

But the trick to any click type torque wrench is to make sure that when your done using it, take all the torque off the wrench (back the setting back to zero). This will help ensure long life and long accuracy.

I agree with everything you just said except for "back to zero" Maybe true with a 3/8" but 1/2" and above you want to back down to lowest mumber on the scale. Ford and Chevy for 20 years, now Ski Trail Groomers and misc.
