I see riders with their left hand on their left hip all the time. I've tried it & it makes my back hurt pretty quick. For me, it's both hands or no hands, like this:

I've actually done this for as much as 50 miles at a time in Texas. That pic was taken at about 75 mph while it was 35*F! If I need to drift right, I stick my right knee out into the wind etc.

Why is it that I can be comfortable riding a bicycle with no hands, but I'm scared to death of doing it on a motorcycle? Don't think I'll every try it.

To answer your question, yes I'll occasionally take my left hand off the grip.
If you want to ride with no hands, that's what the b!tch seat is for!

WoW! I do this one too!!! Most of the other time I just ride down the road in the "Jesus Christ Pose" or (for the religous fanatics that are offended) I do the "Scott Stapp from Creed" pose.[8D]

I usually just throw my left foot over the tank and cross my legs. It's comfortable and offers a change of position on long ride.
