May sound like a silly question, but I am looking at an 04 Softail, but it has 39,980miles on it............should I walk, or when do you start having to sink dough into them or are they good to go for a while........

 

Thats nothing. A twinkie can log 100k pretty easily nowadays trouble free. If its stock, your cool. If it has engine mods, that may take a part in your decision. 40k with a real lean condition could put the bike at the end of its life expectancy.

 

04 with 40k if it's under $9-10,000 might not be bad. I'd keep looking. lots of low mileage yuppie bikes out there for under $12K.

 

My low miles 87 has only 70,000.Just the usual upkeep nonsense.

Yea, but thems NYC miles...go ahead and multiply that by 1.5 to figure out true miles...not to mention the nut between the handlebar and the seat...make that 2.4 times.

 

Myseven month old '07 RKC has about 11,000 miles on it. It runs better now than when it was new.

 

If the bike has been treated right, those miles are nothing. Look over the whole bike for indications of good/bad care. You could ask them to do a compression check for you. I have personally seen a TC-88 engine in an "Ultra" that had 150K miles before ever being opened up. And then it was just given a top overhaul. At 200K the owner had the dealer rebuild the engine just because he was planning a trip from So. Cal. to Alaska. ...................... BC

 

with TLC, 100,000 miles is nothing nowdays. But as mentioned, if the bike has mods, Buyer Beware

 

Just for comparo a local that I know just sold his 03 Fatboy tricked out and with numbered paint tins (1 of 50 big deal..) with 2 thousand miles for $8500.
