I know this thread is old, but I recently came across something that might be just the thing. It's called a bungee peg. If not, I am sure there are others looking as well.

I put those things on my old bike years ago. Don't know what the hell you call them though. They work pretty well and look ok. I did the double nut thing for years before I got those fancy bungee nuts. Search google for Bungee nuts! I just did and it came up with some hits....

Bungee nuts or Bungee buttons both will return good results
