RE: Why do most HD riders scoff at helmets?
Seriously, there's a greater sense of freedom cruising down the road without a helmet.
It's a personal choice though and no amount of debate will change anyone's view of the subject.
The only time I don't wear one is when I'm on a short hop to the store. And, heaven forbid, sometimes on those hops I acutally wear shorts, a tank and tennis shoes.

I don't believe most HD riders scoff at wearing a helmet.
Some surely do.
Most . . .I don't know that's an accurate assessment.
Fight the fight that's worth fighting.

I do wear a helmet. And that is my personal choice. I believe that riding a HD simply means "freedom." The freedom to make our own choices and live how we see fit for ourselves without harming others. I respect others choices for not wearing a helmet and don't give them crap about their choice. In return I expect the same respect for my choice to wear one.

It's all about personal choice. It makes no diffrence to me whether other HD rider's wear one or not. I wear mine most of the time but I sure don't tell anyone else to wear or not wear one. I've ridden streetbikes for 15 years and only had 1 accident. I started wearing a helmet in 2003 when I moved to Phoenix. People drive like $hit here so I felt the urge to start wearing one. Up until then, the only time I wore a helmet was at Bike Week in Daytona back in '98......

It would be helpful to note that the majority of Harley owners no doubt do wear helmets and other safety gear, and are unaware that this forum even exists. Don't confuse the chest-thumping here for anything like a majority opinion.
