Why do most HD riders scoff at helmets?

RE: Why do most HD riders scoff at helmets?
Not just one reason really. Image has something to do with it as does peer pressure (lack of it in the HD world). Most Sportbike riders follow racing and all of those folks are required to wear a helmet. So it follows that they want to look like their peers. Is wearing a helmet as comfortable as not? No, even a light weight helmet is at times uncomfortable. Since our (counter) culter doesn't put pressure on other to wear one, they don't.

Why is it that most HD riders scoff at what a helmet does or doesn't do for you in a crash?
Assuming we're talking about helmets for head protection rather than putting one on during adverse weather conditions to help make the ride a little more pleasant. Most people I know see it as the difference between trying to stay alive and living, or the difference between living and living. Cracks me up when helmet proponents try to compare riding without a helmet to skydiving without a parachute. I believe it's mostly how people's brains are wired differently. One person will only feel exhilaration when flying down the hwy and through the curves without a lid on and the other guy will only feel fear and impending doom.
