All motorcyclist, especially from Florida, I urge you to please write the Florida representatives to strike down this rediculous bill. If you are not from Florida, REMEMBER, if the bill passes here, your state could be next. The person who submitted this bill (HB 137) is
Representative Lopez-Cantera, Carlos from district 113 (part of Miami Dade). The bill is called "Offenses Committed While Operating a Motorcycle" HB 137.

Why whine about it on here? It's YOU in Florida that elected the people that are proposing the law. Someone got to the sponsors of the bill and had the bill written. If you're opposed to it, then let the same elected officials aware of your opposition.
Yes, I helped, and proud of it.
Here is a video that only shows the "tip of the iceberg" of what we are dealing with here in Florida.

That video says it all! Those that don't like the bill should make an attempt to control those that ride that way and endanger others.

Just like the Virginia abusive driver fees, the loss of your motorcycle for breaking the law is a voluntary thing. I am certain this bill was not drawn up on a whim, apparently the people are fed up with the acts of the motorcycle riders. Maybe they can clean it up a little.

No reason for anyone to travel 30 miles over the speed limit and if the law is you lose your bike so be it. I think they should make more of the punishments for some of the other crimes more painful it might make criminals think twice before the rape assualt rob vandilze..... make it hurt not coddle them!!!!

Yeah its way over the line for speeding. Only a tool would think differently, IMO.
I doubt it gets thro because it is clear discrimination...

I guess the moral of the story is Don't Drive Like a Fuching Idiot, and you won't have to worry about it.
So you think it's OK for the State to take your personal property because you were speeding??? Yes, if you are speeding (30 mph over is pretty fast) then you should be punished and fined, but you have no prob with handing over your brand new $25k Ultra and taking away your motorcycle license for 10 years? This bill doesn't say the state tows your bike, it says they TAKE your bike.

What happens to those car drivers in Florida who are caught going 30 mph over? Do they forfeit their car and give up their driver's license for 10 years???

The real moral of this story is you better call your state reps and tell them to vote "NO" on this discrimantory bill!!!

My dad's sister and my grandmothers brother and family live in Florida. I used to be down there every summer. I have to Admit, too many screwed up laws there. You should move Florida and Colorado closer together for people with stupid laws. NO way could I live in either of these states. Don't care what the chic's look like or how good other thing are. Who's voting these people in office. Do no bikers vote to git these people out of office an git the laws changed.

Notice it didnt say anything about being found guilty before they take your bike and sell it. Even if you beat the charge, you are still out a bike. I really hate our government.

21 actual physical control of a motorcycle, the officer shall
22 arrest the person, take him or her into custody, and seize the
23 motorcycle, which shall be subject to forfeiture under the
24 Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act.
The Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act says:
When a seizing agency obtains a final judgment granting forfeiture of real property or personal property, it may elect to:
(a)Retain the property for the agency's use;
(b)Sell the property at public auction or by sealed bid to the highest bidder, except for real property which should be sold in a commercially reasonable manner after appraisal by listing on the market; or
(c)Salvage, trade, or transfer the property to any public or nonprofit organization.
It says "subject to forfeiture". So they don't get to just seize the bike and keep it. If you get lucky and beat a 30 over charge, you'll get your bike back.
