I always leave my bike in gear when I park. I figure that if anyone bumps it or if its on a hill, being in gear will keep the bike up on the stand. But for you guys who park in neutral, what is your reasoning for it just out of curiosity?

Chris
That would explain why many riders here park in neutral![sm=escape.gif]

Always in gear.
As someone else already has asked, why neutral? Why do those of you who leave it in neutral do so?

Now I usually park it in gear (especially when parked on a ferry) - - I always use the clutch and put the bike into neutral when starting.

RE: Parking question
I guess that is why I can't start my Goldwing unless it is in neutral (can't start it with the kickstand down either).......can't start my truck unless it is PARK....and can't move the truck unless I depress the brake first to get it out of PARK.
I bet there are allot of things that happened (People starting vehicles in Gear...and riding bike off while kickstand was down.)........so Gov't got involved and some manufacturers took some choices away. Amazing that Harley still allows bikes to start in gear.....
So that is why I leave mine in neutral. I have never had a bike roll of a side/jiffy stand as long as the bike was secured once I parked it. If you screw up putting the jiffy stand down.....can't really
fault the bike. If it was that important to keep a bike from rolling, you'd think someone would come up with a front brake lock like some ATVs have on them (You engage the brake lever and then click a small lever that keeps the brake handle engaged).
I can't think of the last time I was out and saw a bike roll away. This does not include stupid people parking their bikes with the front wheel facing down-hill.
