I bought a 06 883 for the wife today and when the dealer deliverd it to the house i thought i heard a noise and i said something but about that time my wife pulled up so not to spoil the moment i told her happy birthday and we took off for a ride. By the time we got back it had a definate rattle in the motor. so im wondering am i stuck with it or can i take it back?

Did you test ride before buying?...Most used vehicles are 'as is'...the definition varies from state to state....personally,i wouldnt buy a used pair of roller skates without having my Indy look it over...good luck

I'm sure if there is a problem you can get it fixed under warranty..but no, you can't really return a used bike because there was something that didn't sound quite right after you bought it. Same thing with cars unless you have consistent unfixed issues 3x.

Dude you should have spoke up. Even more so what were you thinking by letting her take it for a ride? Let me just give you a very bad example, lets say that you and the wife head out down the road and the noise that you heard was actually an engine problem. Well you two get to cruising at lets say 45 mph, if this problem would have caused the engine to sieze up on her would she have thought quick enough to pull in the clutch before the bike took her down?
Dude you did a very good deed getting her a bike, but I think she would have understood if you would have spoke up and I really don't think she would have thought any less of you or the bike.

Just wondering,do you know for sure there's something wrong or does it just sound like more noise than you're used to.
Ever own a Sportster before? they do make a lot more mechanical noise than a big twin.
4 gear drive cams do make a lot of racket.

Yep, you might find that the sounds you're hearing are the normal sounds of aSportster. They are not as quiet as big twin Harleys.

Check your state's Lemon Law. The coverage varies greatly from one state to the next, but most have some common provisions. This includes:
1. The vehicle is new or is covered under a state recognized warranty provision,
2. The report was made immediately to the dealer,
3. A minimal number of attempts at service have been attempted (most states require at least 2), and
4. The defect creates a risk of bodily injury or death.
You should also remember that the burden is on you to prove it had a defect at the time of delivery (and sometimes that the dealer knew or should have known of the defect). Do NOT delay if you think there is really something wrong. You have an obligation to lessen the damages you might sustain, so don't ride the bike if you think there is something wrong.

Bummer. New bike day is suppose to be a happy time. Being that it is a '06, I would think that there is still warranty. Take the bike in. Heck, ask for something for your trouble (you might get a shirt or something. LOL). I hope it is not a big deal, and that your wife loves her birthday gift. Let us know what you find out.
