I am required to wear steel toed boots at work the toe of my boots will not fit under the toe shifter so I had to learn to use the heal shifter.... if it wasn't for the work boots I would have removed mine also.

At first I thought about removing my heel shifter, but now I like it. I would like to know where I could get longer floorboards to fit my size 13s. The HD extended boards are still too small.

I wasn't wearing my steel toed boots yesterday. I'll have to see how it is with them without the heel shifter. Hopefully okay without moving the shifter. I didn't even think about that...

I switched out my shifters for extended shifters from Baker Custom: http://www.bakercustominc.com/
I won't change back. They work for me. I really like the heel shift.
As Stache mentioned you need to select the right "angle" to install the shifter on the splined shaft. But once you get it right, it's cool.

I cant loose mine either, what I did do was add some floorbaord extenders, this gave me the space I needed (about and extra 1/2 to 3/4" out) and I didnt have to give up my little friend

My pant legs kept getting stuck on my heel shifter.
At first, I just rotated the heel shifter down to just above the floor-board.
When my pants still got stuck...got rid of the heel shifter all together.
I've had a heel shifter ona prev bike and enjoyed it, but had not pant-leg problems.
As already mentioned here - those with bigger boots can just rotate the toe shifter up.
Got this shaft cover from HD. Looks good and no problems.
