Riding with a backpack, Anyone?
Anyone ride with a backpak instead of saddle bags? I want to clean up my WG so I am thinking of taking my saddle bags off and than ride with just a backpack. Than I can get ride of my double one piece seat and get a seat with removable pillion.

I used to ride with a messenger bag all the time. You know, an over the shoulder bag like those laptop bags people use. I wore that thing everywhere and set it up so that I could rest it on the back of the seat when it had 20 or more pounds worth of stuff in it. Worked great, in fact I still have a couple and use them when I need to carry a lot of stuff. I did use a backpack as well, but I like the weight distribution with the bag better although that makes no sense whatsoever as the backpack is more even distributed...

i wore one for years.
recently i got a sissy bar and a luggage rack and use a sissybag on the luggage rack.
no, it doens't look as cool as a clean bike, but it's a LOT more comfortable.
i hated having the backpack on...

Used to use one all the time before I got my road king.
I hated it.
I DO NOT miss that backpack at all.
Riding w/o the backpack is noticeably more enjoyable.
I don't know that I'll ever own another bike w/o saddlebags of some sort.
I recommend you ride with a backpack a bit before doing any mods to your bike.
It isn't worth spending the money on mods to remove your bags if you wind up miserable because of the back-pack.

My Low Rider has a backrest, and before I got the saddlebags I used a backpack. It was high grade leather, and I brought it to a leather shop to add a "pouch" that slipped over the backrest.
Looked great and worked great.

I have a backpack that I carry my laptop and files in when commuting to/from work. It's designed for a laptop so everything is secure. I normally ride with just my solo seat, but lately, I've left the passenger seat & sissy bar on and I've strapped the backpack to the bak of the bike.

All I have for transportation these days is my bike. I have saddle bags but I use my backpack when I go to the grocery store or laundrymat. What do you mean 'clean up'? Saddle bags look 'dirty'? I like the looks of saddle bags. Kinda the old west, saddle tramp thing. ...........Oh, maybe I get your point.
