Garmin GPS in the rain

RE: Garmin GPS in the rain
as for the waterproof part on that unit, i wouldn't trust it. if you have a west marine or boaters world close (or look them up online) you can get some covers for them that might help but they might pose and issue w/ the mount. my sonar big integrated units on the boat will take a full on drenching but they are built for that (so is my little 60cs handheld). that one is meant for in-car mount and i don't think they foresaw it getting wet much. you also have to remember the connections in the back, where the rain is comming from. granted, most of garmin's have a sort of rubber gasket but i would coat it w/ some marine grade silicone to make sure
the SCORE guys use raytheon i think. their stuff's pretty stout but for their advanced stuff, you kinda need to bring something to the talbe. there is a little more of a learning curve to use them.
their integration (between sonar/3d char plotting/radar/weatherfax/video) software is pretty much the shizzz though.

Guys I just reread my post...Jeez I am a ******* sometimes...lol. Sorry about that.
Score Trophy Trucks and Class 1 cars use the same GPS as the class 11 guys.
Lowrance. Globalmap Baja. They have some small versions made to mount on a bike.
Cheaper, Faster, More reliable than any of those other brands.
EASY menu driven use. I will never use anything else.

Hi All !
I've mounted a Garmin Street Pilot GPS on my Electra Glide. Nowhere in the manuals can I find if it's weatherproff. I'm assuming it's not. Has anyone created a way to shelter one or wrap it to guard against the rain ?? I can always take it off when it rains, but it would be nice to just ride and not worry about it.

My 2720 has been through hell (rain, snow, sleet, mud, crashs) and it
keeps right on going. The key to any GPS is a GREAT MOUNT"
This is what I use http://www.cycoactive.com/gps/gps_mounts.html
"Cheap GPS mounts are for people with more money then sence"
IMO if it says Garmin on it have no fear of riding with it, their a great
company to deal with.
Good Luck and have FUN"

Fortunately the 2720 is also solid state memory. But Garmin has acknowledged a problem with the Map Source software for this unit. It will not allow you to define a specific route and put that route on the GPS for things like leading a ride on a specific route.
For the money, the 2610 is one of the best choices considering what you get and what it costs you.

You can buy the Garmin 2720 for around 800. Touch screen ,no downloads, voice guide, text to speech, etc. Nice unit. Pre loaded unit, ready to use right out of the box. Simple is for me !

I can set up a specific route on my 2720 with no problem at all, I don't
do it much because living in SC. riding VA.WV.GA.TN.NC.SC. mountains
most every weekend all year round I tend to just ride around, get lost
enjoy the ride and then punch in HOME when it's time to go. I have lead
a couple of tours through the mountains and had no problem putting in
and following the route we wanted to take.
Just my .02 on the 2720
Ride safe my friend...
