Default Apes and comfort

I am a pretty new rider. I've only had my bike for a year and a half. My question is this: If I went with 14" Apes would I be leaning to far forward to really get the benefits out of my Mustang seat with backrest or would I need to put some pull back risers on them. BTW, I am 6' on an '06 FLSTC and plan on getting my bars through Wild1.

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

you can always use your stock risers and lean the bars back slightly if needed

I has apes on one bike, after my first 300+ mile ride I decided they weren't for me. They look cool but just aren't comfortable on longer rides. Bitchen for bar hoppers though

Mine are comfortable, even on long trips.

I am 5'7" on a good day and I have 16" apes from Wild1. Not sure about how far you'll be leaning forward, but I don't think it would be to far.

Howdy Jeremey, welcome to the world of ape lovers. When I put my 16"s on my bike, I'll admit that I was after a certain look. It took me a couple of miles to get used to them. I have taken rides of over 300 miles, only stopping for gas and I didn't have any discomfort in my shoulders or arms. Everybody isn't the same in how they ride or feel about comfort, but I found my apes to be comfortable for me. If you are uncertain about the reach of the grips, you can loosen the clamps on top of the risers and move them forward to backwards to make it more comfortable for you. My apes are in line with the angle of my forks and I don't have any trouble with my reach. By the way, I got mine from wild 1 and I am also 6', works for me. Good luck

Thanks for the replies. If I am reading correctly, I can put apes on my back and pull them back far enough to be able to utilize my driver backrest on long rides? Hmmm... 14's or 16's??? Those 16's look real good on your deluxe VolkDeluxe.

I'm thinking about going with 10 or 12 inch mini apes on RKC. Before I buy the HD dealer in Chandler apparently has a bike that they can sit you on and figure out what works best foryou. When I get a chance, that is my next plan of action. Want to have them on before I head to Mexico with it in November...good luck and my only advice is try out before you buy!

I have 18" on my rk custom. They are not an issue for me, on any length ride. The grips are right at my shoulder height. At first I had them in line with my forks, but I didn't care for the looks, or riding position it gave me. I pushed them forward, and have since had no trouble with back pain. You will want to test fit a few bars, before you decide. I got mine through www.LAChoppers.com , and they are my favorite accessory, yet.
