Default Question: Having a motorcycle shipped, who do you use?

I'm ;looking at purchasing a motorcycle located over 4 hours away from me. I have no truck, trailer or a vehicle with a trailer hitch. Any good reputable way to have a bike shipped to me that will not be super expensive? I've hear horror stories about shippers stepping bikes down too hard at the bars and bending them. The shipping would be from KY to IL. Any information or leads would be appreciated.

Man, U-Hauls work great. I would just go pick it up.

Rent something and go pick it up yourself, it'll be cheaper and less risky than using a shipper.

I'd do it myself ... Less aggravation in the end

Agree with DIY. If not, IMO -

Avoid UShip. It is a bunch of cash starved brokers. I paid to have my bike shipped enclosed. Bait and switch on cost, arrived 3 days late in the back of a beater F150 driven by a Ukrainian dude that would not speak English,

HaulBikes - A little more expensive but professional. The process may take a couple weeks and they require a pickup and delivery area for a tractor trailer.

One way flight/train/bus ticket and ride it home. Likely way cheaper than any shipping and you have a nice day to acquaint yourself with your new ride.

This IF you have proper riding gear AND IF the bike is rideable, licensed and insured.
IF not, I'd check around for friends or relatives who may have a trailer and a vehicle with a hitch.

Had some friends that shipped their bikes shipped and somewhere between Point A and Point B someone rummaged through their saddlebags and tour packs and took their tools.

I've never (and would never) ship my bike/trike.

Can't help on this. Hope you can get this figured out, but I have never had a bike shipped without a problem. If I can't ride it back I won't do it. I certainly won't trust someone else not to **** it up.

I recently used HaulBikes and would definitely used them again and recommend. Totally professional and reasonably priced I think.
