This stretch of highway was my favorite cruise in the fall months to leaf peep. The colors in the mountains in that area is amazing. It's a fun twisty section of highway that cuts through the mountains, has some fun tunnels, all wiped out by Hurricaine Helene! Mud slides and washouts took out sections of the road. I hope it can be repaired. It really is a great ride!

Agree. Sad to see. Road from NC to Alaska and back a few months ago. Traveled that section of I40 on the way home and it was one of the most enjoyable of the whole ride. Hard to imagine being a business owner along that section that is dependent on traffic volume.

It breaks my heart even more every time I see the news. So many terrible stories coming out now. The death toll tonight is 190 and it's still climbing.
God bless these folks and prayers for the people there to help. Please continue to give.
As for the Gorge, it is a special place that will never be the same again. If not for being the number one artery into NC from the west I would bet against Sept 2025. Under the circumstances I hope they beat that target date.

I've read and seen the news. The guy expressed something about the roads and you jumped on him.
I was just diagnosed with colon cancer and I didn't find his post upsetting. Life and mother nature can't be avoided.
People die everyday because of being stabbed, but does anybody try to outlaw them? Not that I feel they should be.
I could go on and on. But you guys have gotten old and forgotten that at one time you didn't give a crap. You didn't care what others thought nor did you really care about what happened outside of your little world or circle.
I learned my lesson long ago about forgetting where I came from.
