My Dad and I went this year on our Electra Glides and it was an awesome trip, but we took the long way and made it fun - a six day trip thru the most beautiful country I've seen. Our longest day was 742 miles thru Central Calif but then after that we did 300-400 mile days generally.

Much depends on your bike, whether you have a passenger and whether you can do marathon days.

To be honest the question for me isdo you even want to be in a huge hurry to get there? Why not ENJOY the trip? For us the TRIP was the most fun part of the Sturgis experience. We only spenttwo days in Sturgis out of 12 days we were gone. The trip was the most memorable and most fun part of it all. We saw a hundred small towns, took alot of two-lane rural routes andstopped in little cafes and rest stops along the way.

 

Really depends on you and what you want to do.

First off.. north or south of Lake Erie?

North ....... you will have two border crossings (could be extra time)
South ......... you will have none.

Interstate Highways or US Routes??

Wanna "tour" or wanna "make miles"???

Lots of different choices that will make for different times.

 

Sturgis is 1510 miles from my house. I have ridden it in 2 days and 3. This yearI rode 610 miles the first day and 900 the second.Weather was not too hot and I made some great time. Coming back weather was hot as hell and it took me three days to get home. I was more tired from the 3 day trip than the 2 day because of the heat.
