Indeed it would. If they're using "average" meaning a standard statistical average, a single outlier can significantly affect the results - let alone a few outliers*.

If they're using median, or a more accurate P90 mean, then the number is far more accurate. The article seems to hint at the use of "average", though.

I'm not sure the average person really understands the difference between "Average" and "Median". I think that's why most articles like this use term "Average" regardless of the math used to get the number.

The average age of someone who wants a Harley is 32. The average age of someone who can afford it is 46. HD riders also have higher IQ points than Indian riders

I bought my first Harley big twin new off the showroom floor when I was 29, in 1985. Most of my riding buddies were either my age or a few years younger.

Should ask what is the average age of those not making payments on the 55 Million dollars worth of HD's they need to repo but can't. That would be a more important number. Any beats on what that age would be.

At 32 they can afford $5-6k grand for a used big twin.

Which is why I suspect more young people riding Harley now

My point was only one owner, multiple bikes don't make a difference.

Maybe but how many young folks can afford new truck? Doesn't mean lots of you guys are not driving trucks. I think you factor it all in. I dunno.

I think there was a time that stat was accurate for ownership in general. Back when used prices were high

Was talking to my buddy he bought his first or first new Harley $4500 in 1981. Softails standard is $15k, with other cruisers 17k. Wonder how that plays out with inflation

Just did quick savings calculator 40 years at 3% would be 15k. Not sure real accurate, but intersting.

Harleys have gotten expensive cause a lot of us are driving dressers now
