Maybe new purchases. But I think lots on older TCs. I don't see a ton of choppers on the roads in this part of the country.

Wouldn't. The question is not how old is owner of this X bike. They are not polling bikes. But why someone would want to skew data, is beyond me.

I think entry cost is a major factor that determines the age of ownership. I've been riding for 48 years but didn't get my first Harley until 2012. Prior to that the most I'd ever spent on a bike was $10K and I'm talking new bikes. You can still get a lot of metric bike for $10K.

Our local news reported that the average age of the Rally goers was something like mid 40's.
It sure did not appear to be that by the riders I saw over the whole Rally month. My guess would have been in the mid 60's. But that was just this area and not the whole picture, or take into count other countries with HD riders.

Well I turned 73 in June, been riding on the street since 1967, in the dirt on dirt bikes before that, and I've owned 12 different Harley-Davidsons. Does that count?

Well, I kind of agree with the picture of the article. I think Indian is attracting younger riders. They have more products to offer and match the interests and budgets of younger riders.

Eh. When I go to Harley demo rides, there is no lack of younger folk. I'd say 30's-40's is the largest group. There will be some older, and some younger. About the only demographic I don't see are teenagers.

Same with various casual events, like Bikes & Breakfast or such. Most of those Harleys that come are ridden by 30-40 year olds.

So based on what I see, it is far from simply old men buying Harleys. But even if it were, everyone ages. We're making old men just as fast as old men die off.

If I want to see a bunch of old guys, the vintage Japanese bike meets seem to have a whole lot of 'em!
