The Bubbas with Badges care alot here in MS. They'll yank you over in a heartbeat if they think you've got a novelty on and they LOVE to write those tickets! I wear a DOT half. I don't mind it though. Keeps the wife happy and my brains in my skull.

 

NJ has always been a helmet law state during my lifetime (I'm 50). So to me, bikes and helmets just go together. I even like to shop for them. I currently own four helmets. An HJC full face for cold weather, H-D Ultra Jet 3/4 open with flip shield for nearly all conditions, H-D Midway half helmet for hot weather, and an ARC full face dirt helmet for when I beat myself to a pulp trying to keep up with the young ones (20's).
As for a novelty helmet, even if I had to opportunity to wear one, why bother? About all it does is keep the bugs out of your hair. I'd just as soon wear a baseball cap backward as I did last year cruising through Gettysburg Battlefield Park. But once back on public streets, even though PA has no helmet law, the Midway half helmet went back on my melon. I value my melon, such as it is.
