[QUOTE=Soundman5000;21788675]I guess I have lots more experience and practice buying cars than bikes. I don't even know how much profit is built into a Harley and what one could be purchased for.
I shopped around last year for a new Harley and had a few dealers working with me when I approached a salesman I had been working with and made him an offer similar to what another dealer had offered to sell me a similar new bike for.

When I told this salesman what I was willing to offer, his face turned bright red ( as in high blood pressure ) said something like no way and stormed off to the back and did not return. The dealership was closing and I was like guess I just got dissed. After standing in the middle of that closing store for over 15-20 min I assumed my salesman went home. So I walked out and headed home when 30 min later my phone rings and its the sales manager telling me I have a deal! I was like dude I'm almost home, forget it!

I did purchase from another dealer but I'm in the market again for the wife and need to get a firm grip on what normal "good deal" OTD price to expect to pay is... I have no time for BS.[/QUOT

First thing I do when I walk into a dealer is get the salesmans card. The majority of vehicles you can get about 15-20% off MSRP if the dealer needs to move a vehicle to meet a monthly goal or its a previous year model. I tell them what I am willing to do OTD and if they arent willing to haggle, I write my name and number on the back of the card and tell them I'm ready to buy at that price, give me a call.....usually get a call within a few days.

Wow is all I can say. The bike I like is $36,900 if I remember correctly. Taking 15% off that figure leaaves a price of $31,365 plus tax and stuff. How do you come up with an OTD price?

Dealer here has wall to wall Bikes. Their still trying to unload New 23's. When you walk in the door you get Mugged by the sales people. I know 1 guy that bought a New Bike this year and I know a lot of folks that Ride. Not looking good for the MoCo.

Let all the Letter people, Planned Parenthood, and underrepresented people buy all these bikes.

I inquired about a CVO earlier this year at a dealership in Northern Va. Now, they're texting me, offering below msrp. When I told them why I wasn't considering a Harley, because of HD's political stances and jobs leaving, SILENCE !! I like my local dealer but the mothership can go f**k itself, until the CEO and entire board of directors is fired. Publicly fired. Anything short of firings (resignations, etc.) and HD has lost me as a customer 4ever. (30 year loyal customer) I have an 80 evo flh restored and rebuilt, but I trade and upgrade every few years with my M8.

Then I noticed all the sales folks are all hanging around like a hungry vulture as I guess on all my past visits many of those same sales folks would be working a deal or something and off the sales floor.

Supply = demand , I'm no expert but sitting on this amount of inventory at the end of Summer may not be good for the company but the wife and I are in the market for a bike so I hope it will be good for us!
I just now heard on the news the feds are lowing rates, funny how all that works....
Seriously! No joke. Same observation here. New bikes are crammed in every nook and cranny, hallways and service waiting area and parking lot, too. Sounds like we have the same dealer, LOL!

I didn't read the article. But read an article claiming in the WSJ that bunch of dealers are claiming harley is screwing them over on upgrading store and forcing inventory on them. Said in Japan dealers were buying bikes they didn't want and couldn't sell

On one hand I do find it funny dealers getting screwed. They had no problem selling over MSRP for years. Sadly they will pass this down to us, the best they can. lack of dealers, also creates less local places for parts.

So what is exactly the true cost of a bike? I offered $37K OTD, he laughed and said they were already losing money...Wrote my name and number on the back of his card and said give me a call if you change your mind, just dont wait too long as I am looking at a few other bikes...He called like 4 days later and said ok...Told him sorry, found a bike already.
