harley could bleep up an anvil . P1019 bad pump
#11
There are several folks around me that have not had any issues with their 2018 or 2019 Limited models. The three friends all have over 70,000 miles on their bikes. All water cooled. Have another friend that just had his water pump replaced for the third time. This water pump was the M8 water pump that replaced the previous pumps.

I can imagine that Harley-Davidson sources many component parts. I do not know that the coolant pump is sourced but If I ran the factory, it would be sourced.
During model development, vendor conferences, and meetings, the source vendors pitch the advantages of their parts' construction, engineering, design, materials, and etc.
Harley-Davidson relies heavily upon the reputation and R & D of the vendors. There is no question that the MoCo does their due diligence to select the best source for parts.
Then comes refinement after release of the new HD model from real world experience. If there were no refinements from real world experience, then you could surely blame HD for neglecting the quality of its product.
But blaming Harley-Davidson for deliberately selling a defective product and using the consumer as the testing ground is totally unreasonable.

True, but a water pump with less than 24k mile fails. Plus all the threads about this, when they were new. This is why, harley motorcycle will do better when the graybeards are gone. Profits, I can't say.
My brand new bike failed days before my vacation, it was 3 weeks old. It is just a harley thing. We are the research and development department.
Since it is paid for I'll fix the known problem.
