When the Thrill is Gone from Riding
Okay, what do you do when the thrill of motorcycle riding is gone?
I still enjoy riding but the thrill seems to have gone by the wayside as I am 70 years old, have owned, ridden, maintained, and repaired 20 or so motorcycles over my 55 years of riding.
Have owned cursers, sport go fast bikes, dirt bikes, adventure bikes, geezer glides, and a trike, etc. and ridden them like they should be ridden.
Have rode most all of the road’s multiple times within a 150-mile radius surrounding me, and explored covered bridges, historical places, bars, and restaurants.
Have taken 500-mile trips and probably have some more to take.
The motivation just does not seem to be there like it used to.
Age?
Familiarity with roads/motorcycles?
I can and have all the equipment I need, all the motorcycle clothing that is required and then some.
So, any of you in the same boat? Need suggestions on how to light the spark under my ***.
I am generally a solo rider as I like to do my own thing. My one friend/riding partner quit riding and sold his motorcycles, he was an enthusiast (for about 5 years) but not a biker like I am.
My wife likes riding on the back of the Trike once in a while, but she is not into motorcycles like I am.
I have the correct mix of bikes for me (see signature) for any type of riding I want.
Always looking at Craigslist for an interesting bike to fixup, but none have peaked my fancy lately.
Or do I just sit on my *** and read HDF? LOL.
All input is welcome.

I'm younger than you by 9 yrs. Got my motorcycle license in 1981. Been riding Harley's since the late 80's, and full bore since '92. I love taking long trips, been to the border of Montana and Canada from Texas, and we ride to North Carolina every year, but what keeps me going is the little trips on the spur of the moment.
2 weeks ago I rode to where my Mom and Dad are buried to tidy up their grave and put new flowers out. I noticed my favorite Aunts ceramic photo had fallen off of her headstone. I had nothing to repair it with then, so I gathered some stuff up, and today the weather had cooled down considerably, and I hopped on the bike again and it was only 350 miles today, but it was awesome. Just me and my thoughts, remembering my Dad and my crazy Aunt Jean. Got her headstone fixed proper.
Little things like that keep me going.
There's a lot of people in this little cemetery that I love and miss.....

I can tell you that for me the appeal of local bike nights has completely worn off. Too much construction, traffic, and a burger and a beer has gotten too expensive. Now I will occasionally ride very early on a Saturday or Sunday morning when its much cooler out and very little traffic.
I still like trips, but you can't do that many of them per year, especially if you're still working (hoping that comes to an end in January 2025)

I'm not to your age but old enough. You need to use a vehicle to go from point a to point b. Car/pickups are quite comfortable, bikes are both fun and more work. For me when I get that feeling which is rare, I look at it like this. I have had more than my fair share of head injuries. I find that riding my motorcycle helps keep my motor skills sharper. I will never stop riding as long as I am able, joy or no joy. I view my bike as a mode of transportation just like my pickup, not just a hobby thing.

All input welcome?
I use my bike as basic transportation when I can.
I do get the point road everywhere around here. Which is really an issue on after work rides.
Somes just need to get on interstate or boring highway for awhile to get somewhere you don't go all the time.
Have looked tourist stuff, looking for excuse to go somewhere.
Having plan day before or list of ideas helps, otherwise for me next thing you know it's 3 o'clock and you are doing to going out for something to eat and drink. Which isn't bad.
Maybe you need 3 day weekends if you can. After Alaska, nothing I wanted to do, it was my big goal. So we did a few 3-4 day weekends. Which are nice, not as much planning and stress as a week trip
Around here poker runs are not group rides, just a list of places. Those can get you up and moving.
Also quite a few organizations around here have stamp books or summer long poker runs. Those are nice because they get you places you wouldn't go.
Again look at tourist spots. I went to some cool cavern and try to get a idea for next time. Plan night before, so day doesn't pass.
Years ago ol bought Harley ride book for state. We did a a couple.
Fall color rides will be here before you know it.

At the ripe old age of 74, I have not lost the feeling . . . yet. I've been riding and wrenching since 1965 with a ton or roads and memories. The past few years have been taxing on my health. Cancer Survivor, 2 Transient Ischemic Attacks AND a Triple Bypass this past Christmas. I did have hemorrhoids, but I divorced her in 2000. I no longer feel the need to ride every damn day and opt to Joy Ride when I feel like it. From where I recently came from to today, all of the same old roads has brought happiness and tranquility to me as I am seeing them in a new light. My Wife's kinda disappointed this morning. We planned on riding (07 Dyna 107,000) and (04 1200 C) to our American Legion Post for a meeting but it's raining. We'll take the Black Bagger, 05 F150 with a windshield, radio and ride on another day.
