For many of us, the people we used to ride with aren't there any more. They are either dead, many have moved to different states, have health problems and can't ride, lost interest and no longer ride, etc. So I ride by myself these days, and use the bike to go places that I need to go even if I drove a car or truck. It's no longer recreation, it's just transportation. I can't take overnight trips because I have a good dog at home that depends on me to take care of her. I'm okay with that...

I still enjoy riding but the thrill seems to have gone by the wayside as I am 70 years old, have owned, ridden, maintained, and repaired 20 or so motorcycles over my 55 years of riding.
..............................
The motivation just does not seem to be there like it used to.

Age?

I too have dogs so can't go places with people. I used to have cheap dog sitter. Not a weekend is $$$
Often my bikes are transportation. But I enjoy it. I don't do as much runs, I get it out of my system going to work. Get my junkie fix commuting

53 years of legal riding on the street. Thrill joy of riding not lost but where it comers from changes. Never did the part it at the bar thing. Bike night ok for a few minutes.
Sidecar with Grandchildren on road trips not just around the block is one heck of a boost.
Getting away riding with wife always makes the ride worth while.

Thrill
I'm in the same boat your in.. Been everywhere and saw most all of the places I've read about, some many times over the years. Still enjoy a nice ride in the back country in cool weather but it's not do or die anymore. Bike is in the garage, it's 90 out and I m enjoying our central air and having a drink on a hot Sunday afternoon..

Will admit are times I contemplate if I really do want to go on this trip but once on the road heading to the destination am sure glad I decided to go.

I get the whole (rode all the local roads around here a thousand times). I don't tour anymore, the wife and I used to all the time, but she has gotten to the point of not enjoying sitting on the back of a bike anymore. So now 95% of any riding I do is solo. A few years back I bought a fun sports car. The wife and I use that a lot more these days. I still ride and still like to ride, but it is far less then I have in the past. I just bought a bike I've been on the hunt for for quite some time. Sometimes I walk out in the garage and go... (Why the hell did I do that?) I don't ride the one I have much anymore. Things change, people change, our priorities change... If you're not into it right now.... don't do it. Nothing saying you have too. It doesn't matter what anyone else does or thinks, none of us are the same.
I never understood the mentality that, I have a bike I have to ride it... I've always rode bikes, so I have to keep doing it... etc... You know how many guns I own that I can't tell you the last time I shot? Right now the wife and I are debating building a cabin on land we have. If we do that, all but one bike will be sold, my Camaro will get sold, and I'll buy a side by side and probably a pontoon boat. I'll spend the majority of my time at our cabin with our grandkids making memories. I don't know what the future holds for me quite yet, but I've never felt that I "Have To" do anything. That includes riding.
Good Luck with your thought process. Hope you work it out... Peace
