Harley Will Ride or Die With the Graybeards

Man that mini bike would be a hoot to own! Looks fast and fantastic! Be carful, as kids I think we bounced off everything ( think monkey bars on the playground) but as an adult surfaces get harder. I found a old 70's go cart with no brakes in a buddies garage. Found some string for a throttle, took all of about 10 min and I flipped it in the back of a Ramada parking lot. Found out the hard way I no longer bounce,,,

I built this in 2011 to ride around the compound. Lots of modification to the engine and the frame is a Doodle Bug that I stretched 18 inches to help keep the front end down. It will go at least 60 mph. I'm thinking about pulling it out of storage this year and see if I can get 20 horsepower out of that engine and maybe even paint it It's a dangerous toy...
Notice on that Doodle Bug frame that if you had a long enough piece, you could form the whole frame out of one continuous piece of tubing. Also notice the spring fork design - a marvel in simplicity.
If you get a chance, watch the movie "Rebel Without A Cause" and peruse Plato's 1940 Salsbury Model 72 Motor Glide. They were sort of the cadillac of the early scooters [ LINK ].

Some of those scooters were getting pretty sophisticated, not from a tech standpoint obviously, but from a manufacturing standpoint. I.e. get it down to absolute lowest cost from a labor and materials standpoint. Sort of the precursor to Japanese Kanban/Kaizen methods.

There's a YouTube channel called Cars and Cameras and those guys do some pretty wild stuff with mini bikes and small engines. They have a 275 cc methanol burning mini bike that puts out 39 horsepower on the dyno and holds the world record for the fastest mini bike in the 1/8 mile. It turns times in the 7's and trap speeds in the 95 mph range. The power to weight ratio is insane, lol. They build a lot of really cool stuff.
